Sanji's Seed by B. J. Reinhard

A beautiful story we have read before, but I can't remember where, in a slightly different format.  A little boy is in front of the king, and is given a seed to raise.  He must bring it back in a month with all the other boys to judge who has done the best job and become the next king.  He takes it home, but despite everything he tries, he is unable to make his seed grow.  Yet, his honesty is rewarded.

Also offers a side view into the many chores required in his culture, such as bringing water from the well and washing clothes in the river.
